Barbados...Best Bits!

Beautiful Barbados!

Beautiful Barbados! What can I say!? Thinking of taking a trip here? … You must! From the world renowned powdery, white sand, to the crystal clear, turquoise sea… it honestly is a place like no other!

For me… what makes Barbados so incredible and one of my top 10 must see destinations is the warmth and friendliness of the local people. Everyone I met was so welcoming and genuinely shared their passion for this stunning country. I learnt so much from the Bajan people.

Here are a few of the highlights from my trip~

The local beaches

Top beaches in Barbados~

… in my opinion!

…With a 97km coastline, Barbados boasts some of the most picture perfect beaches. “Once you’ve seen 1 beach… you’ve seen them all!”… This is not the case in Barbados! During my stay I was based near Bridgetown and had the opportunity to discover some gorgeous and unique beaches…Pebbles Beach (with no pebbles!), Carlisle Bay and Brownes Beach… all of which were so beautiful. Each beach offers unique, picturesque views, with an array of restaurants and places to explore surrounding it!

According to the locals, the most popular beaches are also Foul Bay, Crane Beach and Bottom Bay all on the East side of the Island.

Things to do~

You think Barbados adventures- You think expensive trips, right!? … wrong! Everyone always thinks that travelling to the Carribean will include expensive trips out and activities. This is far from the truth, although there are plenty of day trips on the boats, taking you to the bays to snorkel with the turtles… These are great! But want my advice!? I had the most incredible experience swimming with the turtles along Carlisle Bay… totally free! I just used my own (Cheap) snorkel mask and after a lovely chat with some friendly locals about the best place to see the tranquil turtles... and away I went.

There were plenty of places to hire Snorkels at the beaches too.

From Brownes Bay beach you could swim out to a small shipwreck, to see a spectacular array of tropical fish!  If you go to Barbados and you have a snorkel mask… it’s a must bring! If you’re a group and would prefer a boat trip for the day with drinks and music, these are also a lot of fun!

Other activities include jet skis and paddle boarding… the list goes on!

Local Recipe’s~

“Not just fish burgers… Flying Fish Burgers!” as rightly quoted by the owner of an incredible fish burger shack… there are quite a few delicious local food shacks which offer a true taste of Barbados!

Flying Fish is popular in Barbados and is normally served with salt and pepper, or special Bajan seasoning (secret recipes I’ve heard!) . The Flying Fish burgers are a must try with mouth watering, freshly caught Flying Fish with lettuce and tomatoes!... Delish!

After talking with the locals I was told the national dish of Barbados is Cou-Cou  and flying fish and is served with gravy... Mmmm!

Hidden Gems~

My little hidden gem experience in Barbados was watching the local race horses bathe at dawn. According to the locals “…their morning swim helps to relax their muscles and the salt is good for them!”. It was a breath-taking moment for me, I was sat there on the soft morning sand, there was a rainbow to my right, the silhouettes of horses swimming in front of me, amid the pink dawn sky! I tried to capture the moment…just perfect! It’s moments like these on your trips that you must treasure! Un-planned adventures where you can talk with local people and experience unique things!

I found out about the opportunity to watch the horses and their morning swim from the fish shack owner!

Being Buff in Barbados~

Sporting my favourite gym wear from Forever 21...

You’ll usually see me in Forever 21 Sportswear! I love it!… especially as this one has a motivational Muhammid Ali quote on it...

"It's not bragging, if you can back it up!"
